E-mailed Responses Curiosity

I've noticed that not everyone avails themselves of the "check here to be e-mailed responses to this post" feature when they participate in discussions. Given that it is now possible in Listology to provide an e-mail address but keep it hidden from public view, I was wondering why anyone would ever post without using this feature? For me, that feature is the only way I know I've achieved closure on any given discussion I'm involved in. If it's still in my Eudora inbox, I know I haven't answered yet. Just curious - clearly everybody has their own habits!

I generally check my content for new comments, but tend to forget about responses to comments I've made on other people's lists. The problem is that I'm torn between wanting to know about responses, and getting any more email than I already do.
Agreed. There's the sometimes-thin line between being informed and being spammed. Especially for the super-users on the site, checking this option every time tends to spam those people. I always check it personally, as I only post three or so times a month, and responses are few and far between.
Also, my guess is that many people don't use the feature because the box is unchecked by default. I know that, on my own personal guestbook, more than half of the people who sign the guestbook tend to leave boxes untouched, and I've tested with pull-down lists, checkboxes, radio buttons, etc. It's easiest just to type and click Post :)
