The Academy has released its 2009 list of invitees to its roster of voting members. First of all, I never knew membership was that exclusive or that they invited X number of people each year. Secondly, Michael Cera? Seth Rogen? Thirdly, does anyone ever not accept the invite a la Jonathan Franzen and Oprah? That would be awesome.
Hmmm. I always thought it was like any professional orgainzation. You pays your membership fees and you're in. But the fees, I figured, were high. Very high.
The Academy rejected Rodney Dangerfield's membership application. They later offered it, which he then declined.
The Academy has also famously denied Rob Schneider membership in the past
