Why do I suddenly feel this list is more likely to offend than flatter? Oh well.

Well, you've certainly flattered me, at least! Thank you, lukeprog. I've really enjoyed having you around these past few months. The summer months can be very slow 'round here, but your enthusiasm for Listology has always provided me with new, interesting stuff to read.

I second all that! I'm eager to see what this winter brings, since summer is usually slow (as AJ noted), but this summer's been pretty good.

Strange, why would that be? More students having internet access only when at college, perhaps?

Yeah, students and I'm also thinking nice weather are the two main factors that contributing to the summer doldrums (which we might skip this year, based on the healthy clip everybody's setting).

And, if this is 'slow', I can't imaging what fast is like. 50 posts every day, perhaps?

No, most summers are slow, but this one has been fast. In fact, this might be the fastest I've ever seen Listology moving. Slow down! I can't keep up with only 20 entries on the Recent Activity list!

lol, yeah.

I think everyone who is posting a seperate list for every year on everything ought to combine them all into one list like I have with 'significant films of every year' and 'every movie I've ever seen' so that we don't get streams of 20 year-by-year lists whenever someone decides to update.

There are benefits to breaking years into seperate lists, of course, but I decided to do things the way I do for the very reason you've just mentioned.

i nominate Stooky

his posts (respones to existing articles) are always funny and good. he gets back quick to yuor questions and offers lots of thought

so i nominate Stooky

bb

(i dont know if nominating is allowed! but hey)

You're right, I only considered Listology items, not 'posts,' if that's what you're referring to. In any case, stooky came in around #13 (barely off the list) or something in my preparatory list. Nominating is fine, but somewhat unlikely to change my current list as I was pretty thorough in my 'investigating.' :-)

Interesting list.

Lurking somewhere out in listology is a list of best articles that has much in common with this list and pointed me in the direction of some of my faves.

Sadly I have to agree with Luke here. I would like to be a top tenner, but they're all so good. And there are more great listers not on this list that would usurp me. Bert for #1.

And where did Rushmore place. He's certainly responsible for a lot of great new lists.

It's nice to know you're liking the responses, I'll keep it up for as long a computer sits in front of me.

T'ho

:?)

This looks like a good place to poke my head in. Just wanted to mention to all the newcomers that many, many Listology old-timers keep an immense amount of great quality work in their hidden archive.

Open their main page, then check the "all content" box in the "search box" on the left. Personal suggestions would include Johnny W and Nick Vane. I'd bet a good third of Listology is hidden there. They're available through the built-in search engine, but it's nice to see them all in one place too.

Good point Stumpy, and this raises a question: should I add a little feature to Listology that allows you to toggle the view of a person's profile to show their archived items?

That would RULE.

Honestly, I think the Listology archive is misused. I think you will find that most of the stuff in my archive is embarrassing, worthless, or outdated. I don't know why people throw perfectly good lists in the archive. So this feature wouldn't help much for my profile.

I can't imagine that's true of everyone's archive, though...

True. I was complaining about how the archive was used. I wasn't complaining about the possible new feature, at least not with the current state of the archive, which IMHO is misused.

I must say, though, that if Jim adds this feature, I will probably delete some of my archived content.

I'd suggest one thing. Add the word "all" to the front of the line - ex. all stumpy's content. Of course with some longer names this might not fit. Other than that, I'd just leave it like it is.

Do you mean to the header line of folks' public profile, which currently reads (for example):

stumpy | recent activity | print menu | weblog | posts

So you're suggesting it look like this?

stumpy | all | recent activity | etc.

I think he meant something more like 'all stumpy's content,' but I personally like your way better, Jim.

You're right lukeprog. Jim's idea sounds better as not all member names would accommodate the inclusion of "all" on the same line as their name.

One last thought Jim. As long as you have the room up there, I'd suggest something like "older content" or "archived content" instead of simply "all" - which might prove confusing.

Nevermind... I just remembered you don't separate "recent" from "archive" under "all".

Damn it, now I'll have to re-do my list :-)

Harumph. Now, how do I do that? I went to, for example, Johnny W's profile page, but there is no 'all content' checkbox. How do I view all of a persons content, archived and otherwise?

Try again tomorrow. Get some sleep. You'll figure it out. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It's tomorrow, I tried again, and I still can't find a way to view all of one person's archived content on a page.

Let's use JohnnyW as an example. Go to his profile. Now under "Search in..." on the left, check the box that says "JohnnyW's content." Then click GO. You'll notice that his profile only contains 21 items, but this search shows 211 items, so 190 must be in the archive.

aha! Thank you!

Ugh... now I'll have to re-do this whole list some time, lol!

thank you stooky, i nominated you also above :)

THANK YOU! Wow, I'm honored!

Wow,thanks...(blushes)

lukeprog, Can i Clone your list please?

Lol, why should you have to ask?

lol cus its nice to ask :) hehe

Okay, whatever, but I'm not gonna ask anybody if I can clone their list :-)

And sorry, I 'cloned' your "Thigns Rushmore Believes In" list without actually hitting 'clone' (just forgot), but I added 'Inspired by Things Rushmore Believes In" to the list's author comments.
