My Favorite Artists Ever

Tags:
  • This is kinda hard because there are so many people I've loved at some point or other; sometimes for long times and sometimes for only a few months. So I had to set some parameters. To be one of my favorites ever, the person or band have to had at least 3 albums released. There are some artists who only have 2 albums out that I love a lot; but who knows if my love will have longevity? So most of those artists I'll include as Honorable Mentions at the end of this list. My second criteria is that their music must have some kind of longevity for me. Meaning, I can still play their songs now and derive some enjoyment from them. So here they are! I *think* they are in order from most favorite to lesser favorite, but they exchange places sometimes. Also please read my general disclaimer on my other music lists before leaving any nose-in-the-air comments. :-D

  • Hanson: Yes, Hanson takes my number one spot as my absolute favorite. I've loved their music ever since "MmmBop" and I can rarely say that I've loved any other band or artist from the beginning till their most current. I went through the crazy teeny-in-love-with-Taylor stage; I survived the Hanson drought between MON and TTA; and I know what MON & TTA stand for, lol. When TTA was released, my Hanson craze went to a whole new level. That CD was absolutely perfect. It's easily my favorite CD of all time. Their music & talent seems to grow and evolve with every single album. You can always tell that they truly love music and enjoy what they do. They don't go all out to totally rebuke pop music although they've grown above & beyond "MmmBop". Their music always puts a smile on my face; all-around perfect pop-rock. Seeing them live in concert back in 2001; one of the best days of my life. I can't imagine a world without Hanson, lol. I truly hope more people will give their music a chance in the future; they're definitely not going anywhere anytime soon.
Favorite Songs: "Madeline", "If Only", "Runaway Run", "Where's the Love", "Strong Enough to Break", "Smile"
    Favorite Album: This Time Around

  • Bone Thugs-N-Harmony: The first group I was ever actually OBSESSED with, lol. No one was doing what BTNH were doing back in 1995. They were the most unique, the most creative guys in rap music. Nowadays, it seems like everybody has stolen from BTNH. They were singing, rapping, chanting, doing all kinds of things you weren't supposed to hear on the same album, lol. Now you see Nelly, Ludacris, Twista and all these other guys trying to do the same thing (and failing miserably, IMHO). Plus they were really weird back then and that always appealed to me! E. 1999 Eternal: the ONLY CD that could vie with TTA as my favorite ever. I wore this CD OUT! Actually, I just had it on cassette back then. :-p And then 1997 came. Rap music was losing all it's flavor for me, but I held on to BTNH. But they just never could top what they did on Eternal. Unfortunately, I lost interest over the years. But I can still put on some old BTNH and have a jam session; and that makes me happy. Seeing them live in concert back in 1998, I think: the second best day of my life. :-p
Favorite Songs: "Tha Crossroads", "Down '71", "Mr. Bill Collector" "1st of tha Month" "For the Love of Money", "No Surrender"
    Favorite Album: E. 1999 Eternal
    Favorite Bone (hehe): Krayzie

  • TLC: So many memories! These were my girls when I was growing up; so much so that I cried like a baby when Left Eye died. I mean, really cried like it was my sister. There I was, a grown college student and crying over the death of a celebrity. :-p But TLC just holds so many good memories, so many good times. Their songs are synonymous with the best years of my life. their songs were always so much fun; pure good-time music. We used to perform all their songs for our dolls, lol. And sometimes for the neighbors. I was always Left Eye, of course. I own all of their CDs and I've loved them all. I think I'll always enjoy their music; even if it's just T-Boz & Chili. I really hope they don't plan on replacing Left Eye though; SO not cool and impossible. They had chemistry together.
Favorite Songs: "What About Your Friends", "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg", "Waterfalls", "Damaged", "Creep"
Favorite Album: Oooooooohhh..... on the TLC Tip

  • Matchbox Twenty: I "discovered" MB20 back in 2000. I'd heard "Push" way back in 1996, but I really was not into rock music back then. "Push" did jump out at me, but I never actually listened to it. I was prejudiced: "Ewww, rock 'n roll; put on some Mary J. Blige" lol. And then 2000 came with "Bent". I couldn't ignore my urges anymore. :-p Ever since then, I've become a MB20 addict. More perfect pop-rock, and like Hanson, they truly enjoy good, fun music. In fact, Hanson sounds a lot like MB20 musically, heh. And just when you thought Matchbox fever was due solely to Rob Thomas... Rob releases a solo album that I am just not feeling NEARLY as much as any MB20 album. This erased any doubt in my mind that maybe MB20 was one man. No, this is a 5-man group. I like Rob's album, but I'd much prefer a MB20 album any day.
Favorite Songs: "Bent", "Push", "3AM", "Could I Be You", "the Burn", "Downfall"
    Favorite Album: Mad Season

  • -----------------
Honorable Mentions: (not actually a part of the official list)

  • Michael Jackson: You know you jam to MJ too. :-p His were the first records me and my sister owned. My aunt bought us our very first record player back in 1988 or 1989, I think, and she gave us five of her records, including Bad, and Thriller. And you can imagine, we wore those two out. :-p We had little dance routines for all the songs, even "Liberian Girl" lol. The only reason why he's not on my primary list is that I've never really heard the entire Off the Wall album nor anything after Dangerous. But I am purchasing them this summer, so he'll probably make it to the primary list also. Not to mention he was FINE as HECK straight through "Bad", lol. We definitely coulda made some babies the natural way back in the "Thriller" days, juicy curl or not. :-p
Favorite Songs: "Thriller", "Smooth Criminal", "Bad", "Beat It", "Billie Jean", "Dirty Diana", "Man in the Mirror"
    Favorite Album: Thriller
    Favorite Music Video: "Thriller"

  • Natalie Imbruglia: She has released 3 CDs, all of which I love and play regularly. But I don't quite want to put her with my primary 4 just yet. I've only recently gotten into her music (2002 is when I bought Left of the Middle), it feels too soon.
Favorite Songs: "Smoke","Torn", "That Day", "Do You Love", "Beauty on the Fire"
    Favorite Album: White Lilies Island

  • Pink: She has released 3 CDs also, and I've enjoyed Pink since the very beginning up until present day. And she's still my role model! :-p For some reason, I don't feel comfortable putting her with my primary 4 either. I suppose it's because her music REALLY, pretty drastically changes from CD to CD- and I have no idea where she's heading next or if I'll like it. I didn't really "love" her 3rd CD either, but I definitely liked it... after a few listens. I definitely will buy her next CD though and see what happens. She may be added to the primary list then.
Favorite Songs: "Most Girls", "You Make Me Sick", "Stop Falling", "Lonely Girl", "Eventually", "Don't Let Me Get Me", "Love Song"
Favorite Album: Can't Take Me Home

  • Nelly Furtado: She only has 2 albums, but with the 3rd I'm positive she'll make it to my primary list. I always enjoy her music; she's so fun and creative and all-around different. (And adorable- being adorable never hurt anyone :-p )
Favorite Songs: "Turn off the Light", "I'm Like a Bird", "Explode", "Forca", "Shit on the Radio"
    Favorite Album: Whoa, Nelly!

  • Michelle Branch: She only has 2 albums also, plus it feels too soon. I really enjoy all her songs though; more perfect pop-rock. I am a sucker for good pop-rock songs and Michelle delivers. She has a beautiful, strong voice that I love.
Favorite Songs: "All You Wanted", "I'd Rather Be in Love", "Are You Happy Now" "Tuesday Morning" "Love me Like That", "Empty Handed"
    Favorite Album: Hotel Paper

  • Alicia Keys: I can't believe I forgot AK! She She will definitely make the primary list eventually. I love everything about Alicia. She can sing a song and jam at the same time, and nobody's done that since Mary J. Blige. And her voice is a lot more pleasant than Mary's, so that's a bonus! Can't wait to hear what she'll be doing 5 years from now. I didn't like her second album as much as the first, but I'm positive she's definitely the type to improve with time.
Favorite Songs: "Fallin", "Karma", "Why Do I Feel So Sad", "You Don't Know My Name", "the Life", "If I Ain't Got You"
Favorite Album: Songs in A Minor

no disrespect meant, because everyone is entitled to their own musical tastes but this looks too much like what my "artists whose fans I hate the most" would look like were I to have one... or maybe "in my opinion you have horrible taste if you like..." would be a better name for the list... micheal jackson is the only thing saving this list, but I still hate his fans. Matchbox 20 also has a few ULTRA-guilty pleasures of mine, but again, the fans and I more than don't get along.

Just curious, why do you hate the fans? I didn't put my general disclaimer on this list, but it's on my other music lists. :-D I like what I like. I like music I can dance to, I like music that puts me in a good mood, I like music with lyrics I understand, and I like good beats. More often than not I don't care if it's made with a synthesizer or a drum. Music is supposed to be fun and entertaining, and these artists do that for me. I'm sure if I went back looking for music made 20 years before I was born, or scraped the bottom of internet radio for unheard-of bands, I may find some really good stuff. But this is all the music I need right here. :-D

that is why I meant no disrespect... really it's just not my cup of tea, and hate was the wrong word, they irritate me, and mostly because they don't admit what you just said, it's just for entertainment, they try and and get some deeper meaning out of pink and explain how it changed their lives, then again people who say the same about musicians I actually like irritate me, only a whole hell of a lot less.

Great list. This list looks to me like “musicians I’ve been meaning to get into but never really did”. Except for MJ (of course) TLC and Nelly Furtado, I have their stuff. I enjoyed reading it. I may clone it but I’ll leave the part off about how Mariah’s music has gotten me through hard times. *winky*

Thanks! I'll be looking forward to your list! :-)
