based on a convo with a friend of mine who has her top songs AND bands all figured out. I'll tweak this as time allows. I limited one song per artist. Comment if you wish.

very ambitious list--i might be back to clone it if i'm feeling up to the task in the future!) and of course, some very good tunes--we've established our similar tastes in the past, have we not? (i'm especially a fan of "brown eyed girl" and "fake plastic trees.") gosh, the more i think about it--i may have to make it a top 50.
Best of luck to you on your attempt. Truth be told after #1 I really can't delineate between them. And limiting each band to only one song...arg...
based on the existing list, i would offer suggestions for investigation...if I may be so bold. 'Fire Door' by Ani Difranco seems like it would fit in there...some sarah harmer perhaps? 'Substitute" by the Who?
nothing nicer than some stranger offering additional to a personal top 20.
and i have to ask, why 1979? i've always considered that one of their weaker tunes.
Hey Busy,
Thanks for the tunes to put on my "to listen to" list. The Smashing Pumpkins' selection did trouble me--I wanted to include a song from "Siamese Dream" and first thought of "Disarm". I think, however, that I was so entranced by the excellent video for 1979 that I cannot separate the two in my head. I'm big into lyrics, too, and do like "Faster than we thought we'd go / beneath the sound of hope..." I'll have to ponder SP once again, tho, I'm sure.
in my opinion, 'disarm' is where it's at. although points are awarded for the fantastic video for 1979...no matter when i see or hear it, it reminds me of lost summers of youth (hmmm, that's probably the point, isn't it?). and while the *song* 'today' doesn't do much for me, that is a great video too...okay, i'm now officially off topic.
I completely agree with the feeling of lost youth that "1979" evokes. Course, I was only 2 in 1979, but still...
I guess I should also think more on the double cd "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness"...but nothing really speaks at the moment.
"Don't Fear the Reaper"???? - it must be the cowbell.
