Very interesting. Much as i enjoyed parts of Modern Times- the first and last tracks are excellent- it's surely been overrated generally. First for the plagiarism, which has been too easily excused, and second for the ponderous Nettie Moore and relatively uninspired centre, and weak When the Deal goes Down. It's certainly pleasant and i prefer his older voice, but nothing earth-shatteringly original.

I'm a middle-aged fogey, well behind the times, but i did like White Blood Cells a lot so intend to get more White Stripes.

Plagiarism? I think I've missed something.

And I personally don't think it's been overrated. Maybe it's just because he hadn't made anything of this level in such a long time, but I thought it was beautiful from start to finish (except the lesser When The Levee Breaks).

Sorry, i don't want to put a dampener on your pleasure. It's just for me clearly a 4 star not 5 star album, and i think some of the more orgasmic reviews have been a bit o.t.t, partly cos it's Dylan. But you lie back and enjoy!

ps; i'm glad you like Springsteen (strangely underrated these days?) and The White Stripes is one of the very few modern bands i've been impressed with, admittedly i've only got the one album.

If I'd started giving Dylan albums good scores because they're Dylan albums, I'd be giving Saved and Shot Of Love good scores and I can't do that.

Well, still no Tom Petty in sight in here... But I didn't come here to complain about the lack of recognition that has plagued TP&HB for thirty years now... Rather, I'd like to hear about your opinion of british band Editors... Their latest album "An end has a start" is quite only one of two current new material from fairly young bands that I am enjoying at this time (the other being the more obvious but slightly less young White Stripes)... Thanks for your input if you have any :)

I've probably unknowingly heard some Editors songs, but I can't say I really know them yet.

My recommendation for the 00s would be &nbsp Absolution by MUSE
It can be picked up quite cheaply in the "used and new" section.
Muse have been voted best "British Live Act" at the Brit awards twice now, in both 2005 and 2007.
