Listology
New Listology Update
Submitted by heyrocker on Mon, 10/27/2008 - 09:04Hi everyone! I just wanted to give an update on how things are doing with the Listology transfer.
In case anyone hasn't heard, I am rebuilding the site up from scratch using an open-source content management system called Drupal. I've already got the main parts of the site prototyped and I'm hard at work on importing all the old users and lists. So far it looks like everything will be able to come over unscathed.
It's Time III: The Hero Edition
Submitted by jim on Wed, 09/24/2008 - 11:24Great news, folks, our very own heyrocker volunteered run Listology just as soon as we can manage a graceful passing of the reins! I am so relieved and happy (and grateful!) that the site will live on. I hope you'll join me in thanking him for taking on the job. I can say first hand that it's very rewarding, but also a lot of work, and as I made clear in my initial resignation post, there's some significant labor ahead.
It's Time II
Submitted by jim on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 11:20Sorry, I wanted to make a quick follow-up post regarding my resignation to the home page so everyone would see it. Two things:
First, thank you all for the kind words, support, and understanding! I'm overwhelmed. I started to feel silly thanking each person individually who posted on the other page, but please know that I'm reading everything, and I'm touched.
It's Time
Submitted by jim on Tue, 09/16/2008 - 03:46[ Please read to the end for various updates. Listology has a new lease on life! ]
Howdy folks,
I've been mulling this over for weeks (years, even, as this is not the first time I've posted looking for somebody to take over Listology only to relent), and I have decided the time has come for me to either shut down Listology or pass it off to a successor. While the latter would be GREAT, there are a number of obstacles:
1.
Netflix Features
Submitted by jim on Sat, 08/30/2008 - 02:06Just a quick service update: Soon I'm going to disable the feature where you can import your Netflix queue, and I'm also going to stop supporting the Netflix Tracker tool. Two reasons: [1] Netflix supports queue-sharing via their "friends" features, and [2] Whenever Netflix changes their markup the features break, and I don't want to keep up with that. If they ever expose an API perhaps these features will be reinstated. I just wanted to give you a little warning before I pull them. Thanks!
False Alarm
Submitted by jim on Wed, 07/25/2007 - 12:18I've decided to stick around as the Listology administrator. Before I explain, first let me apologize for flip-flopping, and for any worries I caused in announcing I was looking for a successor. I'm sorry for this time of insecurity!
When I announced I was looking for a successor, my intention was to find someone who truly loved Listology, and who had a vision for improving the site, as I've merely been maintaining the status quo for a long time, and felt guilty about that.
Listology Successor Status
Submitted by jim on Sat, 07/07/2007 - 01:19Just a quick update on the Listology handoff: I've received a few tentative offers to take over, along with many offers of help. Thank you! At the moment I'm mulling over a couple possibilities: hanging on myself (by taking advantage of some of the offers to help), or handing off to a long-standing (almost from the beginning) Listologist. I'll post again once those ideas resolve, one way or another. Either way (or even another way), I feel good about Listology's future.
Looking for a Successor
Submitted by jim on Mon, 06/18/2007 - 10:41I've been neglecting Listology for far too long. This community deserves an active administrator, someone who will respond to feature requests, strive to keep the site up-to-date, give it a shiny new web 2.0 look, etc. I think it's time for me to admit that my heart is no longer in it, and pass the site along to someone with a passion for it, and the technical abilities to pull it off. You wouldn't have to be a programming guru, but you'd have to know your way around a bit.
The handoff would take awhile and be somewhat involved.
Trailerology: Barnyard (Whoa, that CAN'T be Right)
Submitted by jim on Mon, 06/26/2006 - 10:55Just got back from watching Cars, and leading it was a trailer for Barnyard (trailer 2 is the one we saw). Am I wrong, or is something horribly amiss? Give it a watch, see if you can spot it. Click here for the answer. Is this old news? Is it intentional? I'm stunned.
