XTC
Submitted by JAMOOL on Mon, 11/16/2009 - 16:21The description of "great pop band that never got the commercial success it deserved" is usually reserved for Big Star, but XTC deserve the title more - while the group did chart a few tunes and do occasionally show up on 80's pop compilation albums, it's surprising that the group got nowhere near the attention that their contemporaries of the post-punk New Wave scene did. With Elvis Costello, The Police, Talking Heads, Squeeze and Joe Jackson all charting major hits and became a big part of 80's pop culture, XTC was undeservedly reduced to having a small but rabid following.
The best electronic breakbeat songs (Papua New Guinea lovers are very welcome)
Submitted by d91 on Sat, 11/14/2009 - 02:12Hello everybody. I’ve made a list of some really great breakbeatsongs. Because I don’t know many great of these songs, I thought I put this list on listology. With your suggestions I want to make this list longer and so everybody can find the best songs of this particular genre. Songs with styles like Papua New Guinea, Finished Symphony and the likes are welcome on this list. I have heard Hip-Hop Breakbeat: I don’t want that kind of songs on this list.
1. Future Sound Of London – Papua New Guinea (1991)
2. Hybrid – Finished Symphony (1997)
3. Way Out West – The Gift (1994)
Summer of Davin Albums Listened To & Rated
Submitted by AsColdAsIce on Fri, 11/13/2009 - 19:45- ***
- Mastodon - Crack the Skye [Progressive Metal - 2009] - I enjoyed this, it was heavy, riffy and had elements of doom. B
- Passion Pit - Manners [Indie Electronic - 2009] - Slightly better then I thought it would be, but it's still Indie Electronic, so it sounds like every other Indie Electronic album ever. C-
- Van Morrison - Astral Weeks [Folk Rock - 1968] - Still brilliant. Everyone must buy this album, a majestic mix of folk, jazz and rock.
