Why music today is not as Good as music from back when

Guess the situation hasn't improved much, 6 years on. Daresay it's worsened. A hell lot. But thanks to the wonderful thing called internet (we keep forgetting just how new a social medium it is), there are alternate ways to discover great music.

Merlin's gut speaks out on : Random Things That *REALLY* Annoy Me (ouch!)

:) I re-read the list after ages and wow, I guess something written in a state of pure upset can strike some chord somewhere. Thanks :)
Hey you're in India btw? I am.

Why I feel Slumdog Millionaire is not deserving (An Indian Perspective?)

Answers to the questions :

(a) There are many films that show violence more grisly than shown on Slumdog. For starters, try "Parinda" if you can lay your hands on it.

(b) There ARE many films that are wholly and solely based on slums! And it wouldn't be wrong to say that Slumdog works because it glamourizes slums rather than making them an integral part of the film. Some films off the top of my head : "Company", "Salaam Bombay"

Poverty in India has been the subject of... let's see, most of the films in 70s and 80s. The point is, it has never been made as the USP of the film. It hasn't been shot so dynamically, with the 'wow' effect or rather the fascinating horror with which it has been done in SLumdog.

I'll tell you WHY Slumdog clicks with the Western audience - the poverty is captured from a Westerner's point of view, by a Westerner. That's it. I truly believe this film wouldn't have garnererd this amount of praise and adulation if it had been shot by an Indian.

Movies (Hindi) That Should Be Remade

I think of all of Sanjay Gadhvi's films take a good plot and screw it up. Dhoom worked because of the stars and the bikes I guess. When I heard of the plot of Kidnap, I so wanted it to work but I guess the director had to bow to the demands of commercialism.

Billu is actually a remake of some South indian film by Priyadarshan only. Huge hit from what the media has to say.

Movies (Hindi) That Should Be Remade

Kidnap? You can't be serious. And Billu is already a remake. A sad, pathetic attempt, if I may say so.

New Listology Update

Just a repost -

- quote function and multi quote function
- simple formatting tools like italics, bold etc. without needing to type in html, ie graphic tabs for formatting (but I guess this is out of the picture now)
- tags for lists

More suggestions I'm just throwing about :

- embedding multimedia like pictures maybe? (from flickr/imageshack only maybe?)

- I think some kind of user rating would be good. Maybe based on a mix of number of endorsements and post count?

- and finally, I think it would be cool to have a new category of content : reviews

heyrocker already ,replied to these suggestions, but for the sake of discussion -

- permalinks to individual posts
- a mobile version of the site maybe? If you're migrating to wordpress, something like the wordpress mobile edition CSS available at alexking.org might give you a general idea.
- a more detailed profile for users, maybe?
- a more intuitive user rating system

Some things this site doesn't
need, imo :
- avatars, signatures and other bloaty GUI
- reputation system or post count system. The current system is more or less good enough I think. The post count is visible only if you muddle through the profile

Span is useful, at least for me. It would be great to see it.

It's Time III: The Hero Edition

Just repeating here what I posted on lbangs' list, for the sake of a whole picture :
- quote function and multi quote function
- simple formatting tools like italics, bold etc. without needing to type in html, ie graphic tabs for formatting
- tags for lists

More suggestions I'm just throwing about :

- embedding multimedia like pictures maybe?
- for profiles : location, favourite movie and favourite band, maybe? This is just to begin with of course

- I think some kind of user rating would be good. Maybe based on a mix of number of endorsements and post count?

- and finally, I think it would be cool to have a new category of content : reviews

I'm excited already :)

It's Time III: The Hero Edition

Confusion cleared, thanks mate.

I posted some suggestions here - http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm/content_id.33526/Music about what all changes would be cool.
Adding to that, some more features needed imho :
- permalinks to individual posts
- a mobile version of the site maybe? If you're migrating to wordpress, something like the wordpress mobile edition CSS available at alexking.org might give you a general idea.
- a more detailed profile for users, maybe?
- a more intuitive user rating system

Some things this site doesn't
need, imo :
- avatars, signatures and other bloaty GUI
- reputation system or post count system. The current system is more or less good enough I think. The post count is visible only if you muddle through the profile

Just my 2 cents...
Good luck!

to do list

Again, no viruses for Linux is probably due to the smaller user group maybe? I think what is interesting is that one web servers use Linux than windows. Maybe due to less crashes and less viruses?
This is a fantastic rebuttal to the post, btw. Most of it can be applied to the whole open source vs. non open source debate. I personally am yet to understand why open source is pushed so hard into our faces. This post succintly puts down what I randomly thought of. Thanks!
